I can only think David Hewlett had something on Jason Mamoa from their Stargate Atlantis days to get him to be a part of this pile of trash. But after watching it all the way through I can honestly say its damn good movie. We aim to create a safe and valuable space for discussion and debate. Perfectly acceptable, even enjoyable, but not "important". Don't be deceived. It's like someone who's only watched bad horror movies and played video games suddenly saw 2001 and thought it was a bit boring and that he could do a better job. While the subplots and backgrounds may differ, both films deal with the same scenario: an evil that has taken over a spaceship and a crew that comes to investigate. Between Momoa's magnetism and the character's hypnotic appeal the girl didn't have a chance. A dystopia setup for young, attractive, anti-system hackers to attempt to overcome. FILM REVIEW - DEBUG. 6 stars for Momoa's seductive performance. The one area where it could have been something special (the FX and Gore) was edited, so that you never actually saw the deaths but the after effects, which is a cop out if I ever saw one. The characters were cardboard, the story predictable and uninteresting. Menu. This movie starts out bad, and unsurprisingly, gets worse from there. Debug Overview: I wanted to put this into my list of hacker movies, because the concept of the movie is where a collection of computer felons are forced to do work on abandoned space ships to get them running again for a government body. A team of ne'er-do-wells are sent in to Debug the place, but find themselves victims of this Trojan Horse-power. In 2047, six young criminal computer hackers are sent to an abandoned space freighter as part of a prison release program. I like science fiction and I always enjoy seeing a good 'spaceship' type set. Non-subscribers can read and sort comments but will not be able to engage with them in any way. Block or Report. Where have we heard that one before? Welcome to The Globe and Mail’s comment community. Surely there HAD to be better scripts out there to have taken advantage of the talent because this was just awful. If you're like me on the other hand then this might be exactly what you're looking for. What were they even thinking? What this movie lacks in big budget it makes up for in a nice set, and some cute actors. A telegenic young crew of convicted computer hackers is tasked to clean up the computer programs of a deserted space freighter and reboot the ship. By far the most impressive thing about Debug is Jason Momoa's acting so maybe that gives you some idea of how lame this movie really is. There is little point in beating around the bush about it: the obvious comparison for Debug is Event Horizon. Incredibly mundane and bland, just like the rest of the movie. 06/13/2018
Momoa rocks and Hewlett doesn't disappoint, One of the worst sci-fi films I have ever seen. Do yourself a favour and spend the 85 minutes staring at a blank piece of paper instead of watching this! The only good thing about this film would have to be the design of the ship itself. Film Review: Debug (2014) John Noonan 06/13/2018 Film Reviews. So, how can you combat this? Review: Debug – Movie. 15 years on and The Matrix looks every bit like the student’s night down at a rock club in the 90s that it actually is. And scarier. And so begins a long 90 minutes as they’re bumped off one by one. Did I hear you scream "getting a virus on your computer"? Just about the only two big budget 'spaceship set-type' movies of recent years were the Star Trek reboots and Prometheus. Some information in it may no longer be current. Also one of the actors looks like David Henry. Debug is a Sci-Fi/horror film culled together from far better films such as Event Horizon, Tron, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Six young computer hackers sent to work on a derelict space freighter, are forced to match wits with a vengeful artificial intelligence that would kill to be human. The problem with the movie was that it was ultimately boring.
